Spring Inshore SLAM: How I Covered Water & Found the BITE

I’ve cost myself countless numbers of fish during transition periods over the years because I fished the wrong way, I didn’t cover ground.

If you’re fishing the same way year-round, you’re likely missing out on some serious springtime action. When fish spread out, covering ground quickly and making smart lure choices can be the difference between getting skunked and landing a slam. Power fishing isn’t just about speed — it’s about observation, efficiency, and knowing when to change tactics.

So if you’ve struggled during seasonal transitions like I have, this video will help you fish smarter and stay dialed in. In this video, I will talk about the best way to find fish in the spring when the fish spread out, and that is power fishing!

Ready to Crush It This Spring?

Great video Pat. As far as confidence for power fishing. If the temps or conditions allow it would be topwater followed by the Skinnylipper or Mirrolure Catch 2000🎣

Great info Pat as usual! Can you repeat the type of Rod you use that is 6’10”?

Good intel Pat! Generally speaking, when power fishing, how long are you spending in each ‘bad’ spot before moving on?

Awesome video and tips Pat. Would you be willing to do a video on your camera setups for fishing? Interested in your head cam setup. Thanks again

Yet another great video Pat! You mentioned possible safety issues if you don’t head into the big wakes properly, you also said quite a few times to wet your hand before handling the fish. You showed what happens to your leader while fighting even small snook, and you also talked about checking your hook point! You had a great day and caught a SLAM coaching us about how to power fish and what lures you use! You rock Pat! Thanks.
P.S. My go to power fishing lure is the 4″ Mulligan in Lebronze on a 4/0, 3/16 oz Hoss Helix Hook as I fish a little deeper water than you do and only fish fall, winter and very early spring!

Pat,

another priceless nugget buried in the midst of your video

check the sharpness of the hook by dragging it across the thumb nail. Thanks!

Great video Pat. My search bait is the 4”Milligan on a 3/0 1/8 oz weedless hook. It casts quite far even on a weedless hook, and can be fished fast, moderate, or even very slowly drug across the bottom.

When power fishing, I my confidence baits are the fluke on a 1/8 oz, hoss helix, flea flicker or mirrodine MR 17, and moonwalker.

Nice video. Wife and I kayak fish on the intercoastal in Sarasota and Charlotte county FL. Our go-to bait is the 2.0 FRED paddletail. We just vary the weight of the hook. We might try some hard baits if the FRED stops working, but so far it has been the winner for us.
