Witch reel do you like best and why Otis 2500 or Daiwa Fuego 2500 ?
Those are my two favorites because they are very light and smooth. The Otis 2500 is my overall favorite because it feels more stable when fighting a big fish and it looks cooler.
Will there be baitcasting model
That is our plan, but it won’t be until late this year.
Are the new slam stick rods one or two piece blanks
The Slam Stick is currently only sold as a 1 piece. We do have a 3 piece travel version in the works, but that won’t be out until this summer.

Caught my first flounder this weekend with the medium light … the casting felt so good using 1/8 weedless, first cast first strike —- I think I got lucky but hoping to prove the doubt wrong in another couple fishing trips 😀

Custom casting rod first. We will most likely not have a custom casting reel this year.

I was looking for a 7’6″ in a ML. What I really like about this rod is the reel seat. The rod blank is exposed going through the reel seat so you don’t miss those subtle bites. The Otis 2500 balances perfectly with this rod. Once the weather cooperates, I can’t wait to see what this combo will do.
My next upgrade I’m considering is the Slot Machine medium and medium heavy once they get back in stock.

Luke can you lend one of every Salt Strong custom rod you sell to the local chapter Presidents? I can’t buy a rod unless I hold it in my hand. I also ask that you provide any other proprietary product like your reel, hooks and lures so we can get a better understanding of the product. Also I would you to stock the new Quantum saltwater reels as well.

The first batches of rods are always relatively small to make sure that the production process is producing exactly what we got in the final prototype. Once we get the next batch in, I agree that getting some rods to chapter presidents would be a helpful way to allow more members to feel them before buying.
As for the Quantum reels, which one in particular are you interested in buying? I’ll be happy to get some in stock for you.

I felt them both at ICAST, and they did look/feel nice. My only issue is with their weight as they are 30%+ heavier than the reels most members are using (Fuego or Otis).
That being said, which specific model and size are you wanting to buy? I’ll make sure to get some in stock.
The cheaper model. The 2500 or 3000. I know they are a little heavier but the sealing is what interests me. To get something that well sealed for 100 bucks is almost impossible. I wade fish and even the Fuego really isn’t sealed that well. The reverse switch and the handles are points of water entry. If you decide to build a Salt Strong surf rod you would want to pair it with one of these to keep the price down.
I just went on their website and they have two-piece surf fishing combos (9 ft two piece rod w/6000 reel) for 159.99. Call their rep and see if they can get them for you for 25% off. You can get our members a 9 ft. rod and 6000 size aluminum reel for 150. That is a deal. The Penn surf reels are 200 dollars alone and are IPX5. The Quantum reels are IPX6.
